Great Park Pumpkin Harvest

Pick a Pumpkin, Help Fight Hunger

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Come to the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest, the Orange County Great Park's Halloween event, on Saturday, October 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. close to the Great Park Balloon. All kids twelve and under can pick their very own free special pumpkin, while supplies last. This family fun filled day will include a costume parade, a monster mash dance, pumpkin decorating and a preview of the first phase of the Great Park Preview Farm -- a two acre farm that will provide County residents with an opportunity to learn more about sustainable methods of gardening and agriculture, and the proposed Great Park Food-to-Fork program. Parking is free.

Great Park Pumpkin Harvest attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and the Community Action Partnership. The Second Harvest Food Bank and Community Action Partnership are collaborators with the Great Park Preview Farm and its Food-to-Fork program. The Great Park Preview Farm Food-to-Fork program plans to grow and distribute produce to needy families through the Second Harvest Food Bank and Community Action Partnership. Donation bins will be located at the check-in table.

"The Great Park Preview Farm will soon provide to food banks like Second Harvest and the Community Action Partnership a much need source of food for struggling families throughout Orange County," said Larry Agran, Chair, Orange County Great Park Board Corporation.

The Great Park Balloon will be decorated as a giant Jack O' Lantern. Great Park Neighborhoods is also sponsoring activities at the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest. Its events include a petting zoo and Ghost Town Main Street in Hangar 10. There will be plenty of tricks and treats for everyone!

The Orange County Great Park is located on the site for the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine. When completed, the Orange County Great Park will be a 1,347 acre metropolitan park. It will provide a wide array of active and passive uses, including a 2.5 mile canyon and lake, miles of walking and biking trails, a cultural terrace, Orange County's largest sports park and a botanical garden.
