studies substantiate the rise in childhood obesity, the health risks in
overweight children, and the questionable nutritional value of cereals and
other foods kids consume. Yet one manufacturer -- Funky Monkey(TM) Snacks

and convenient for kids, but also provide most, if not all, of the daily fruit
servings recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for kids.

Parents Can Now Ask Schools to Serve Soymilk

As students head back to school, parents gain flexibility in what their children receive in school lunch lines. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced parents or legal guardians may request, in writing, soymilk as an alternative to cow's milk for children receiving National School Lunch and Breakfast Program meals. This change caters to the growing diversity of participants in the School Nutrition Programs and allows children with lactose intolerance, dairy allergies or cultural diet restrictions to have an alternative source of calcium at school mealtime.

Strong Bones, Strong Kids: Tips for Preventing Fractures and Injuries This Summer

School's out and summer is the time of
year when millions of children attend various camps, many of which are
sports-related. From basketball to tennis to football and even hockey,
kids need to be physically prepared for their sport of choice or injuries
could occur. According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, about 3.5
million children ages 14 and under receive medical treatment after getting
injured from playing sports every year. Medical experts say kids need to be
armed with the right tools before engaging in any athletic activity. Doing
proper exercises, wearing protective gear, and eating nutrition foods are
key to preventing injuries. This summer, GOT MILK? along with health
professionals throughout California are teaming-up to provide tips for
parents on how to keep kids safe from injuries and broken bones.
